Sliders are much more involving and user friendly than a range of tick boxes. They invite interaction, and we find respondents often go back and move one until they are happy with the answers they give. This does not happen with traditional radio buttons and check boxes!
Making a long survey about the complex world of financial services and mortgages was going to tax the most patient of survey respondents, so using a combination of sliders and drag and drop response systems kept the number of questions each respondent had to answer down to a minimum. We managed to both get the depth of information required by the client and leave our respondents with a positive feeling about filling in the survey.
